National curriculum inclusion statement
and links for Scotland, Ireland and Wales

The National Curriculum Inclusion Statement sets out three principles that are essential to developing a more inclusive curriculum :

  1. Setting suitable learning challenges
  2. Responding to pupils' diverse learning needs
  3. Overcoming potential barriers to learning and assessment for individuals and groups of pupils.

The NC document for England includes suggestions on ways in which these inclusion principles might be incorporated into the science curriculum. To view the National curriculum inclusion statement click here.

There are ongoing developments in Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland relating to special educational needs and inclusion in the curriculum. Updated information can be found on the websites:

Northern Ireland (CCEA)

Scotland (Learning and Teaching Scotland)

Wales (ACCAC)
